'Tis the weekend for Christmas events

PENTICTON - Christmas events are in full swing this weekend throughout the South Okanagan, with sales, a light up event, a parade and a Christmas concert.

The Summerland Art Council’s annual Christmas sale opens on Friday, Nov. 30, open 10 until 4 p.m. until Dec. 24, except Sundays.

Shop for handcrafted art and gifts at Season’s Sparkles in the Summerland Art Centre, while enjoying mulled cider, snacks and Christmas treats. Take a chance on a raffle tickets and daily draws.

There’s also live music from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m. and wine tasting with Bottleneck Drive on the lower level.

The Penticton Tune-Agers bring their Christmas concert to the Shatford Centre on Friday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

The choir and orchestra present the “Sounds of Christmas.”

Tickets are $15, available from the Shatford Centre office, the Dragon’s Den in Penticton or from The Beanery in Summerland, or at the door.

Summerland’s 31st Festival of Lights is Friday, Nov. 30 starting at 5 p.m.

Downtown Summerland is transformed into a holiday wonderland in a festive atmosphere that draws families from around the valley.

The Santa procession begins at 5 p.m., light up is at 7 p.m. and fireworks start at 8:30 p.m.

Penticton’s 21st annual Santa Claus Parade starts at 4 p.m. in a route down Main Street starting at White Avenue to Front Street.

Dress warmly and bring a chair to watch the steady parade of floats making their way down Main Street in this event that heralds the arrival of the holiday season in Penticton.

Yuletide at the Lakeside is a Christmas market with more than 35 vendors taking place on Sunday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

Santa and Mrs Claus will be there, along with other activities for the kids including a skating rink, pony rides, kids crafts local entertainment and more, in the east ballroom. There is no charge for the event.
