British Columbia Lottery Corporation has announced the odds for betting on the first baby of the new year.
Gamblers can bet on which BC hospital will welcome the first baby of 2024, and which names will be the most popular for babies born throughout the year.
The current favourite is the BC Women’s Hospital with odds currently set at 3.5, the Royal Inland Hospital is set at 28, and Kelowna General Hospital has its odds set at 18 which means a successful $10 bet will win $35, $280, and $180 respectively.
For most popular baby names, the frontrunners are Olivia for girls and Noah for boys.
Olivia has been the most popular name for girls for seven of the last eight years, losing to Emma in 2015.
Liam was the most popular name for boys for two years, but was dethroned by Noah in 2022.
It may seem like an odd thing to bet on but BCLC annually sets up odds for the birthplace of the first baby of the year, and most popular baby names.
Gamblers can place bets on the birthplace from now until 6 a.m. on Dec. 31, and baby name bets can be placed until Jan. 31.
