KAMLOOPS - It’s been a couple days since Bob Dieno and Tara Holmes created a petition and Facebook page asking the B.C. government to consider doing away with daylight saving time and they are getting strong support from many in the province.
The petition ‘stop the time change in British Columbia’ received hundreds of signatures in the last 48 hours after media outlets throughout the province picked up the story.
“It’s beyond crazy. It’s staggering,” Dieno says.
Dieno, a former Kamloops chamber of commerce president, says if and when the petition reaches 10,000 signatures from B.C. voters it will obligate officials in Victoria to consider it.
“Right now I’m almost a fifth of the way there in less than two days,” Dieno says.
Both he and Holmes are speaking with news outlets large and small across the province. Dieno says most of his morning involved interviews with Global News and other large outlets from the Lower Mainland.
The numbers are growing at such a significant rate, that Dieno says he received an email from the petition site change.org to notify him his petition is gaining the most traction above all others. At time of publication, the petition had more than 4,900 supporters and close to 1,500 likes on Facebook.
