Thunderstorms and clouds ahead for the Okanagan

Clouds, showers, and possible thundershowers dominate the weather pattern in the Okanagan this week, although tomorrow should see some sunny skies.

OKANAGAN - The first week of July is expected to bring the Okanagan a mixed bag of weather conditions — none of which are remotely summer-like.

“The best day looks like tomorrow (July 3)," said Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon.

"As we get into Thursday, another trough moves through, with showers and unsettled conditions expected into Sunday."

Sekhon says thundershowers can also be expected with the unsettled conditions later this week.

Today, expect mainly cloudy conditions in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton, with a 40 per cent chance of showers and threat of a thunderstorm this afternoon.

Northwest winds are expected to blow at 20 km/h this afternoon, getting lighter tonight, with a high of 24 C and a low of 12 C.

Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of 27 C and a low of 14 C. Showers are expected to move on Wednesday night.

Thursday should see showers and a high of 23 C.

Rain is forecast through Thursday night, with cloudy skies prevailing on Friday, along with a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Friday’s high is expected to be 26 C, with a low of 14 and a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight.

Saturday a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 25 C is anticipated, with a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight.

Cloudy conditions are expected to return Sunday along with a 60 per cent chance of showers.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton normally experience an average high of 26 C and a low of 11 C this time of year.
