What can be more fulfilling than driving fast? At Thunder Mountain Raceway (TMR) just east of Kelowna, you not only get to experience the thrill of a 1/8 mile, fully operational drag racetrack but also join a community of avid auto fans. With over 50 years of history, the Raceway has become a home for a 3rd generation of racers.

Racing for trophies, money and points are on offer at TMR, as well as racing for bragging rights! “Thunder Mountain has always prioritized nurturing a passion for speed, cars and community – along with a fierce competition to win,” says TMR’s Sponsorship Director Bill Boult.

Weekends with a Thrill

The venue offers a convenient campground which can accommodate 100 racers (the Pits) and 20 camping spots for spectators from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Bleachers offer prime views for spectators. Delicious on-site food ensures the complete weekend experience. Moreover, TMR is a thrill for young people. The track delivers the ideal learning ground for driving skills. Children as young as 13 get behind the wheel (with their parents in the car!) learning not just to drive well but also developing a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Weekends also feature Pro, Super Pro, and Top Competition racing classes. Race challenges, as friendly as Sunday picnics, are welcome.

The resurgence of drag racing in the area can be attributed in part to the popular Street Outlaws TV show, which has ignited fresh interest in the sport. Seizing this momentum, TMR have brought back their Friday Night Street Outlaws racing event, drawing motorists from near and far.

The organization invites racers from all over North America to join in the fun. One of their most popular racing events is the Dirty Diesel Customs Mayhem On The Mountain on July 6, 2024. Open to spectators, there will be many races, vendor booths, and food trucks.

A Raceway for All

Affordable fees and welcoming membership policies make TMR a destination for all.

Pricing flexibility is another perk: $20-$50 a day — basically, just show up with your car and be ready to hit the track as long as the car passes the safety inspection.

Their roster of female racers shatters stereotypes and inspires the next generation of racers.

And always… Safety first!

Sponsors and Volunteers: The Backbone of the Thunder Mountain Raceway

TMR is fuelled by the dedication of its sponsors, appreciated for their support and donations. And the Raceway loves its volunteers! Volunteering is way more than just lending a hand: it's a chance to learn the ropes about running races and checking cars, an opportunity to pass on knowledge to young and old, and also to become part of something important for Kelowna. Training is provided to all fresh volunteers. It’s through collective efforts that TMR has grown - becoming stronger one race at a time!

TMR Branded Must-Haves

And what would a racing community be without branded merchandise featuring the mighty logo? From tops and mugs to stickers and more, you can find it all at the tent at the track. Not only does this unite the community under a common emblem, but it also ensures you’ll spot your fellow racers at the corner café in town during the week!

Rev up your engines and create lasting memories at Thunder Mountain Raceway. Check out the 2024 racing schedule on their website at www.thundermountainraceway.com.

Race at the Track – not on the streets!
