ARMSTRONG - Police are investigating a rash of suspicious fires on a quiet residential street in Armstrong this week.
Police say there were three suspected arsons over the last two days on Warner Avenue, located across from Armstrong Elementary School.
“We are alive to the fact that these fires have occurred within a short period of time and have similar circumstances,” RCMP Const. Kelly Brett says in a release. “We are confident that someone has information that can further these investigations and are asking anyone with information to contact us.”
On March 9 at roughly 2 a.m. RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious fire in the 3600 block of Warner Avenue in Armstrong, Brett says. Upon police arrival, an attached garage was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished, but not before significant damage to the home was sustained.
While on scene, police and fire services were advised that another fire was located on the same block of Warner Avenue, where a homeowner found his garage on fire. The fire was extinguished by the homeowner prior to the fire getting out of hand. The garage sustained moderate damage, Brett says.
A day earlier, on March 8, at around 2:30 a.m., the RCMP responded to a fire on the same street that left a garage door and front vinyl siding damaged.
No one was injured as a result of the three fires.
An RCMP major crime investigator and the Forensic Identification Section attended both scenes. The investigation has led police to believe the fires were incendiary in nature and are therefore being treated as arson, Brett says.
Police say they are concerned about the recent string of fires and are asking residents to report suspicious activity to police immediately.
