Three people taken to hospital following Kelowna townhouse fire

KELOWNA - A fire on Briarwood Road in Kelowna forced four people out of a townhouse unit last night, three of whom were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation at Kelowna General Hospital.

Fire crews were called at about 6:22 p.m. yesterday, Sept. 19. When they arrived on the scene there was smoke and flames coming from a second-floor bedroom in the four-unit complex.

The stubborn fire was quickly extinguished before it could spread to the roof or other units, a Kelowna Fire Department news release stated.

People living in the other three units were able to return home for the night but the four from the damaged unit were assisted by Emergency Support Services.

The cause of the fire is not deemed suspicious.
