So far in this municipal election season there are three scheduled chances for the public to see Kelowna’s five mayoralty candidates debate albeit, sometimes, with a cost attached.
Incumbent mayor Colin Basran is being challenged by Tom Dyas, David Habib, Glendon Charles Smedley and Silverado Socrates.
First up are two Sept. 28 events, basically at the same time.
A mayoralty debate is scheduled for Okanagan College, co-sponsored by UBCO, at the college from 7:30 to 9 p.m. It’s at the S104 Lecture Theatre in Student Services Building at Okanagan College on KLO Road. There is no cost but registration is required here.

At roughly the same time, all mayoralty and councillor candidates are invited to what is billed by the Rutland Residents Association for a meet-and-greet session.
It runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and offers the chance for candidates to set up tables and talk to members of the public. It’s at the Hollywood Road Education Services centre at 1040 Hollywood Rd. South. No registration is required.
The other two mayoralty forums come with food, which means they also come at a cost.
First up, on Oct. 4, is a Kelowna Chamber of Commerce lunch at the Mary Irwin Theatre in the city’s Rotary Centre for the Arts.
It coasts $35 for non-members for a box lunch. It opens at 11 a.m. with the forum scheduled to run from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. To register go here.
The Canadian Home Builder's Association Central Okanagan is hosting a mayoralty debate on housing affordability that’s geared to early risers.
Breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. with a discussion from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The cost is $60 for non-members but there are no details as to what’s on the menu. To register go here.
Municipal election day is Oct. 15.
