A photo circulating threatening on social media to “shoot up” a West Kelowna high school has promoted RCMP officers to be at the school tomorrow.
The image, circulating on social media, says “I will shoot up MBSS Friday, May 13. Happy death day.”
Cpl. Tammy Lobb, RCMP media liaison, said police working with Central Okanagan Public Schools regarding the threat at Mount Boucherie Senior Secondary and police officers will be on site tomorrow.
Student Jada Friel said the message was written in lipstick in the girl's washroom and she became aware of the message last night. There was one police vehicle at the school today, she said.
She doesn't know who wrote the message but said it makes her not want to go to school tomorrow.
Police were notified of the threat yesterday afternoon, May 11.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Lobb said.
Kevin Kaardal, superintendent of School District No. 23 was not immediately available for comment.
In a letter to parents, the school's principal Scott Sieban, said due to the threat, increased supervision will be implemented at the school with the support of the RCMP.
