Thousands still without power after windstorm strikes Interior

FILE PHOTO

While power has been restored to more than 30,000 impacted by Friday's wind-caused outages, 1,195 remain without power in the Thompson, Shuswap, and Okanagan Saturday morning.

BC Hydro has dispatched additional crews to continue to restore power to impacted customers.

"Significant progress was made restoring customers following yesterday's windstorm," said a BC Hydro spokesperson in a statement. "Additional crews are assisting work today to complete repairs for outages in 100 Mile House, Kamloops, Salmon Arm, and Valemount."

Friday's windstorm saw winds gusting as high as 94 km/h as recorded in Quesnel. The storm worked its way south, reaching the North Okanagan around 12 p.m.

As the wind whipped across the Interior, it brought down trees and power lines in its wake.
