Lottery players who purchased winning tickets in the Thompson-Okanagan region won $144 million in total payouts this past year.

Throughout the province, more than $859 million was paid out to winning players and of that number, $144 million went to players from the Thompson-Okanagan, according to a BC Lottery Corporation media release. This represents more than 101 million winning tickets purchased province-wide in the year.

Overall, 14.1 million winning tickets in the region led to the $144 million won throughout the year.

Of those, six were grand prize-winning tickets of $500,000 or more, one was a Lotto Max jackpot ticket that was split between a Kamloops resident and an Albertan which resulted in a $35 million win, and one was a Lotto 6/49 jackpot ticket of $5 million won in Kelowna.

The corporation reports a record $1.6 billion in net income in the past fiscal year which they pride themselves on partly giving back to the province through supporting healthcare, education and community programs.

“Surprise, delight, awe, joy, excitement – these are all words that our lottery winners have used to describe how they felt winning, so as 2023 comes to a close, we’re excited to look back and celebrate all of the life-changing dreams that became realities for our lottery winners,” president Pat Davis said in the release. “Thanks to our players, BCLC is proud to generate revenue for provincial services and initiatives that we all rely on like healthcare, education and community programs.”
