KAMLOOPS - She’s spunky, adorable and wants everyone to know she wears hearing aids and she’s proud of it.

Evangeline Dyment, 5, of Kamloops has made it into the semi-finals of a children’s clothing company competition as they search Canada and the U.S. for a new brand representative.

Dinosaur Tales, based out of Barriere, launched the competition as it searches for a new fall and winter brand representative.

Dyment’s mother, Tarra, says her young daughter would be the perfect fit because she has a big personality.

“Not only would she be perfect because she is sassy but she also wears hearing aids,” Tarra says. “We would really love it if she was able to be one of the reps because I would love to see more models or people in the media in general with hearing aids.”

Tarra realizes how important it is for young kids with hearing aids to have role models in the media.

“Every single time there is another little kid that is wearing hearing aids, she yells ‘mom, mom’ and pulls on my sleeve and we will go over, chat and just kind of normalize it because it’s not that common,” she says.

Evangeline and her brother both have moderate bilateral hearing loss in both ears that were discovered at birth.

“We would absolutely love it for a little local girl to win one of the places and just the exposure for her hearing loss would be so fabulous,” Tarra says.

The competition ends tomorrow, Aug. 23.
