OKANAGAN – It’s the size of a small island, has multiple bedrooms and bathrooms like a cottage, but it can take you across the lake at 65 km/h.

A luxury sport yacht owned by Penticton resident George Speirs was listed for sale on Kijiji this past weekend. The price tag for the 63’ Sea Ray Super Sun Sport is close to $400,000 but it comes with amenities rarely found outside of a large home.

Because of its immense size, the boat is named Speirs Island II.

“As far as I know it’s the biggest boat on Okanagan Lake,” Speirs says. “Certainly the biggest power boat.”

The yacht has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a modern kitchen and a central vacuum. It once had a laundry room, but that was replaced by a pantry. It runs on twin V12 diesel engines but a full tank of diesel costs almost $5,000.

“We don’t drive it very much,” Speirs says. “If you just cruise around it’s actually pretty good on fuel. That easily lasts us all summer.”

Speirs bought it six years ago from Florida. Since then, his family, including seven kids, have used it mainly as a floating home away from home.

“We’ve had 50 people on it for a party before and it doesn’t even notice,” he says. “We called it Speirs Island II because it basically sits like an island with boats circling around it trying to get a closer look.”
