A 200-room, six-storey Courtyard by Marriott hotel in the Airport Business Park has been approved by the City of Kelowna council.

The land, at 3480 and 3508 Fleet Court, was given rezoning approval by council yesterday, July 12.

It will join two other hotels (Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton and Four Points by Sheraton) built by Argus Properties Ltd. which is also planning to build this hotel.

“The additional hotel capacity will help in facilitating tourism and economic development for the region,” the report that went to council said, noting there is high demand in the area near the airport and the UBC Okanagan campus.

The three hotels are across Highway 97 from the airport in what was once a gravel pit. The hotels will share common parking lots.

The existing hotels have generated more than 500,000 guest stays and more than $9 million in tax revenue, states a report from Argus Properties that accompanied the application.

The City of Kelowna is in the process of selling the rights to build another hotel next to the airport terminal building.
