A new unoccupied home was flooded and filled with gas after a break-in and theft in Lake Country last week.

The theft occurred early Tuesday, Nov. 12 on Derek Tretheway Drive, according to Crime Stoppers Central Okanagan.

“Once inside, the suspects cut the water and gas line to the on-demand water heater before prying it off the wall, leaving the basement flooded and gas-filled,” Crime Stoppers said in a post to Facebook.

Sporting equipment stored in the garage was stolen alongside the high-efficiency water heater unit.

Crime Stoppers did not comment on the value of the items stolen or the cost of damage to the property.
