KELOWNA – Santa Claus isn't the only one paying attention to who's naughty or nice.

A team of RCMP volunteers are mobilizing to keep an eye on shopping area parking lots to make sure your presents aren't stolen before they are even wrapped. Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says in a media release Citizens on Patrol and others are donating their time help ensure your stuff is safe while you are shopping.

“The general public can expect to see our highly visible COP volunteers patrolling parking lots in marked volunteer vehicles and handing out 'don't be an easy target' Holiday Edition tip cards, while they are busy shopping for their family and friends,” O’Donaghey says in the release. “These men and women have generously donated their time during the weeks leading up to Christmas to help ensure that your gifts make it all the way under the tree.”

Starting Friday, Dec. 9, you should notice the volunteers in full force in commercial areas, including Orchard Park Mall to prevent crime. They urge you to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report crimes to the police.

“Please make sure you greet and thank our volunteers for their invaluable service to our community,” adds Cpl. O’Donaghey.
