Insp. Beth McAndie has been appointed as the new head of the Penticton RCMP detachment.

She will be taking over for Supt. Brian Hunter who is retiring.

Insp. McAndie has been serving as an RCMP officer for 26 years, according to a City of Penticton media release issued today, Oct. 27. Currently, she's the Investigative Services Officer for Kelowna RCMP and previously she was with Surrey’s Major Crimes Unit.

“Insp. McAndie is an exceptional leader to take on the role as the incoming Officer in Charge of the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment,” Commander of the RCMP’s Southeast District Chief Supt. Brad Haugli said in the release.

City manager Anthony Haddad said McAndie will help with the city’s initiatives for improving safety in Penticton.

“We’ve been focused on creating a safer and more resilient community and the RCMP has played a leading role in those efforts,” Haddad said. “Having someone with her depth of experience and understanding of the challenges we face is invaluable as we tackle the issues in front of us."

Insp. McAndie and her family already live in the Okanagan, but she says they are excited to become part of Penticton’s community.

"Our family has always enjoyed spending time and enjoying the great outdoors in the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen region,” she said. “We are very excited to become engaged in the vibrant community, taking in all that the city and region has to offer, the amazing people, and strong community groups that contribute to what makes this city so attractive.

"I am looking forward to working with our Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen RCMP team and community partners to continue to collaborate in addressing our region’s priorities."
