With temperatures forecast to move above and below the freezing mark this week in Kamloops, precipitation is expected to come in the form of snow, or rain, or snow mixed with rain.

“It’s a weird pattern with a westerly flow that is bringing temperatures so close to zero we could see rain or snow, a little bit of everything,” Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says.

He says the precipitation could fall as rain or snow depending on the time of day, with temperatures in and around the freezing mark.

Lundquist says snow that fell over the weekend on the valley bottom probably won't last.

“There are two modes this time of year, either we’re really cold or just a bit above freezing, and it seems we’re in that little above freezing pattern,” he says. “People need to be aware of being cautious driving in this type of weather pattern, as things can freeze overnight, and roads are subject to suddenly changing conditions.”

In Kamloops today, Dec. 2, periods of snow are expected to restart this afternoon. The wind should become east at 20 km/h this afternoon with a high of -3 Celsius expected and a windchill of -9 C. The snow should end after midnight with mainly cloudy skies and a 40 per cent chance of snow overnight. Accumulations could reach two centimetres with the temperature steady at -2 C.

Tomorrow should see a mix of sun and cloud with an east wind at 20 km/h becoming light near noon. Tomorrow’s high should reach 0 C with a low of -1 C and a 30 per cent chance of flurries overnight.

Wednesday is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of flurries and a high of -1 C. The forecast calls for clearing overnight with a low of -6 C.

Increasing cloudiness on Thursday should be accompanied by a levelling off of temperatures with a high and a low of -2 C  expected.

The clouds continue on Friday with a 30 per cent chance of showers, a high of 4 C and a low of -2 C.

Cloudy periods are expected Saturday, along with a high of 1 C, with cloudy periods overnight and a low of - 3 C.

Sunday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 3 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 1 C and lows of -5 C.
