KAMLOOPS -  Kamloops police have arrested a man spotted allegedly trying to break into vehicles parked in Upper Sahali on the weekend.

The 39-year-old man was arrested yesterday, Feb. 3, when a witness called to say a man was trying door handles on vehicles parked on Springhill Drive at about 1:15 a.m., according to an RCMP media release.

The witness told police that at one point he saw the suspect get into a vehicle for a short time.

Officers located the suspect a short distance away, police say, and he was arrested with two backpacks. Police allege one of them had been stolen from a nearby vehicle.

“Kamloops RCMP are grateful to the citizen who called to report this suspicious activity,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in the release. “He was an excellent witness who gave us a good description of the suspect and a direction of travel.”

Shelkie says the suspect was previously known to police.
