For 24 years, Smorgasbord Deli in downtown Kamloops has been serving the community. But now owners Anita and Dalton Strong say it's time for a change. The building they occupy has been sold, so it's time to move on. They are selling their well-loved business.
New owners will have to select new premises in Kamloops, but there is a loyal customer base that is sure to follow no matter where that new location may be.
More than just a deli, the Smorgasbord has offered dine-in seating for 40 people and also a gift shop and imported and organic foods since 1999.

"We love our Kamloops community," Anita says. "Our customers know we grow vegetables ourselves or buy them from the local farmer’s market. We buy fish, bread and meats locally to ensure the quality and sources. So it all kind of works together for the benefit of everybody."
The Smorgasbord has established itself as a community meeting place. The space has been a hub for diverse gatherings over the years, including the Council of Canadians, various political parties, faith groups, writers, knitting and book groups, and farmers' market organizers are loyal customers who love the food.
What makes Smorgasbord Deli extra special is its commitment to local and Fair Trade goods—from locally-published books on sale to the organic food and produce loved by its customers. Adding an eclectic vibe are local musicians and their fans who come to jam on Friday mornings.

It's an excellent opportunity for new or seasoned entrepreneurs looking for a profitable well-known business. What better investment to make in yourself and the community than through this established and socially-minded venture?
A cooperative model, which is being discussed, would build on the established sense of community and collaboration, and provide the funding to continue operations. The Strongs are willing to mentor new owners during the transition. They are offering their business name, equipment, and inventory for sale. They also have long-term employees who would love to continue to work with the new owners.
Interested parties should contact Anita and Dalton or Daphane Nelson directly as soon as possible at The Smorgasbord Deli, 225-7th Ave Kamloops, BC by calling (250) 377-0055.
