While Christmas Kettle bells started ringing throughout the Central Okanagan today, The Salvation Army will officially launch their 2016 Christmas campaign on Friday, November 18th at Wal-Mart in Kelowna from 9-11am.

Local celebrity and media personalities will be on-site to fill the kettles as they join to kick off The Salvation Army's 2016 Kettle Campaign. There will be a festive atmosphere as Chordial Invitation ushers in the Christmas season with some seasonal music, and of course there will be candy canes available!

Last Christmas, The Salvation Army assisted close to 600 local families through their Christmas Food & Toy Program, and was able to bring toy joy to over 1,100 children and teens through the toy program. This is in addition to the regular assistance given each and every day through their two Community Life Centers in Rutland and Westbank.

The Salvation Army's year-round assistance to families of emergency food, clothing, furniture, and other provisions continue to rise – seeing a 20% over the first 10 months of this year. The funds that are raised through the kettle campaign allow the Salvation Army to continue to support the local community at Christmas and throughout the year.

The Kettle Campaign's success is dependent on the army of volunteers that rock and ring the bells, taking a two-hour shift from November 17 - December 24 at businesses throughout the Central Okanagan. Bell ringing has become a tradition for many, and there is always a place for anyone who would like to be a part of making this year a success. With 5000 Kettle hours to fill, this is a perfect opportunity to Give Hope Today. Shifts are scheduled based on the on the volunteer’s availability, and signing up is easy!
