PEACHLAND - The battle against the wildfire near Peachland continues, however, no growth has been reported.

The Finlay Creek fire is estimated to remain at 1,000 hectares, according to B.C. Wildfire Services Information Officer Rachel Witt.

Throughout the night there will be 7 firefighters and four pieces of heavy equipment on site. The firefighers will be batteling the blaze and building guard.

Witt said she spoke to a meteorologist who said "that specific area has not received precipitation since June so it is as dry as you can possibly imagine and that is the biggest influence on fire behaviour and spread."

It has also blanketed much of the Central Okanagan with smoke. Environment Canada ranks Kelowna air quality at eight or high risk.

Because the fire moved toward two regional district borders, the Emergency Operation Centre is expanding the Evacuation Alert to include about 206 additional properties over and above those that were put on alert last night.
