Christmas is about more than gifts, but everybody has a memory of one that stands out from the rest.

A dollhouse - Julie Messum

"One year my dad made me a dollhouse and painted it exactly the same as our house. We had tile floors back then, and he cut the tiles in one-inch squares and tiled the floors the same as well. Even made tiny furniture. It was amazing!"

A Nintendo and New Kids on the Block cassette - Sherry Lynn

"I remember one year I got two of the things I wanted most the original Nintendo and the New Kids on the Block cassette. I was so excited I cried. One of the best (Christmas') ever."

A stuffed elephant - Monique Kozub Anderson

"My mom had just split up with my stepdad. It was an awful breakup and mom was now a single mother and had no money. She went to the Salvation Army that year. We had so many amazing people delivering boxes of food and gifts.

"That was the most amazing and memorable Christmas ever. I’ll never forget one of the gifts I got, it was an orange stuffed elephant. I don’t know why but I will never ever forget that Christmas. Doreen Carragher as hard as that year was, you did a great job. I hope you know that."

A master cylinder - Denise McConachie

"Memorable, but not the best.

My dad was helping me install new brakes on my 4Runner. I was buying everything and he said not to bother with brake fluid because he had lots. A day later my brakes failed on a hill leading down to the highway. Fortunately no one was coming as I blew through the stop sign and onto the highway.

"I went to Toyota and they took a look and asked if someone was trying to kill me, my master cylinder was full of gas. Turned out my little brother, for whatever reason, had used a brake fluid container to store gas in it and my father didn't know.

Christmas comes and I get just one very heavy present, a new master cylinder."
