Did you know that Jim Carrey hired an RCMP officer in Red Serge to officially welcome Morgan Freeman to Canada during the taping of An Unfinished Life or that producers of 2012 originally wanted to drain a small lake until they found the Lac du Bois location that was ultimately used during taping? These little known facts can be found under the “Who Knew?!” tab on a new website released by the TNRD Film Commission this week.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District Film Commission announced a website this week showcasing the many different types of productions that have filmed in the region – from movies, films and documentaries to television shows, commercials and music videos.

With more than 100 projects filmed across 250 locations the map details projects going back to the 1990s and curious browsers can find release dates, synopsis, location information and cast highlights on each of the projects. Users can also see where stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Nicholas Cage and John Cusack were sighted as they shopped, worked out or grabbed a bite to eat.

The website was primarily funded by the Northern Development Initiative Trust and is a way to pique curiosity and help drive tourism. Executive director of film for the TNRD Vicci Weller notes the website can also be a source of pride for residents, “it's fun to brag about what's been filmed in our hometowns when relatives, friends or colleagues visit.”
