SAGUENAY, Que. - Aleksandra Wozniak and Bianca Andreescu have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Saguenay National Bank Challenger after picking up victories on Thursday.
They will join Charlotte Robillard-Millette of Blainville, Que., as the three Canadians to have qualified for the final eight.
An all-Canadian matchup between Wozniak of Blainville, Que., and Montreal's Francoise Abanda needed three sets to determine a winner.
In the end, it was the 29-year-old veteran who came away with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
"It's never easy to play against a friend. It's harder to manage your emotions in these kind of circumstances," said Wozniak. "It would have been more exciting if this match was the final."
Wozniak will meet top-seeded American Catherine Bellis in the quarters. Wozniak lost to Bellis earlier this year at a tournament in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
"I want to be more consistent from the start this time and of course hope for a better result," said Wozniak.
The 16-year-old Andresscu, from Toronto, beat American Lauren Albanese 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-4. She will face Harriet Dart of Great Britain on Friday.
