PARIS - Canada's Eugenie Bouchard is out at the French Open.

She dropped a three-set decision to Russia's Maria Sharapova in semifinal play today at Roland Garros.

Bouchard was trying to become the first Canadian woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final in the post-1968 Open era.

The 18th seed from Westmount, Que., also reached the semifinals at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Bouchard and Carling Bassett-Seguso, who lost in the US Open semifinal in 1984, are the only Canadian singles players who have made the final four in the Open era.

Sharapova, the seventh seed, will play the winner of the late semifinal between Simona Halep of Romania and Andrea Petkovic of Germany.

More coming.
