The Okanagan will have to endure at least one more day of showers before an improving weather picture is expected to bring daytime highs reaching 30 Celsius by the end of the week.

It’s shaping up to be an odd week, weather-wise in the Okanagan as daily highs move slowly upward as the week progresses, with alternating days of sun and cloud, sunny skies, cloudy skies, and back to sun and cloud.

The rest of the country is also moving into more summer-like weather as temperatures start to climb back east in Ontario after several weeks of unsettled, wet and cool weather in that province. The Weather Network says parts of southern Ontario will feel close to 40 C due to rising temperatures and humidity expected this week. Two weeks ago the province was experiencing record low May temperatures and late season snow.

Environment Canada says the showers in the Okanagan will end this afternoon, May 15, giving way to cloudy conditions and a high of 15 C in Vernon and Kelowna. It should reach a high of 18 C in Penticton today. Winds are expected to become south at 20 km/h this afternoon before becoming light this evening. A low of 9 C is expected.

Tuesday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 22 C Kelowna, sunny skies and 23 C in Penticton, and a low of 9 under clear skies overnight. There is a 30 per cent chance of showers in Vernon Tuesday, with a high of 22 C and a low of 9 C expected.

A mainly sunny day is in store Wednesday, with a high of 23 C and a low of 10 C.

A high of 26 C and a low of 13 C is expected Thursday under cloudy skies, but Friday should see a sun and cloud mix as the temperature climbs to 30 C, along with an overnight low of 14 C.

Clouds return on Sunday with a high of 29 C. There is a 60 per cent chance of showers overnight Sunday along with a low of 14 C.

Monday should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 28 C.

Normal temperatures at this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 21 C and lows of 8 C.
