Teenaged girl killed in Kelowna collision

A 15-year-old girl was killed and another 13-year-old girl injured after a car and motorcycle collided in Kelowna last night, July 19, just after 9:15 p.m.

Both were pedestrians at the northwest corner of Harvey Avenue (Highway 97) and Dilworth Drive and were struck by the motorcycle.

“A Toyota car was making a left hand turn from Harvey Avenue into the northbound lanes of Dilworth Drive when it collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle travelling westbound on Harvey Avenue,” states a Kelowna RCMP news release. “The motorcycle then struck two pedestrians at the northwest corner of the intersection.”

The driver of the motorcycle was taken to hospital with what are believed to be serious and potentially life-threatening injuries. The two girls were also taken to hospital where the older one died of her injuries.

The 13-year-old girl has been released from hospital.

The RCMP will be reviewing video camera footage from the area and ask any witnesses to call them at  250-762-3300.
