The 14-year-old boy who was missing at Sun Peaks Resort has been located by search and rescue volunteers and he is safe.

"Yesterday the teen was skiing out of bounds at Sun Peaks when he became lost," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said in a press release.

Today, Feb. 3, just after 11 a.m., a spotting plane saw footprints leading to a shed and alerted ground crews. Kamloops Search and Rescue then attended the location on snowmobiles and found the boy.

Police originally believed the boy was able to gain entry to the old shed, which wasn't the case. Investigators now believe the teenager braved the elements overnight after he couldn't gain access.

The teen is reportedly in good spirits, although understandably cold and hungry.

The teen was reported missing from Sun Peaks Resort, Sunday, Feb. 2. He took a shuttle to Sun Peaks and failed to catch his ride back to Kamloops in the afternoon. The boy’s parents were contacted who then advised police.

Kamloops RCMP and Kamloops Search and Rescue were actively searching at Sun Peaks this morning.
