TORONTO - Members of the Iranian-Canadian community say TD Canada Trust has offered them no explanation for its decision to close a number of bank accounts in recent days.

Kaveh Shahrooz of the Iranian-Canadian Congress says in some cases, TD notified the account holders that the closures were in response to Canadian sanctions against Iran, but others received no explanation.

He says TD has offered to meet with representatives of the group to discuss the closures in two weeks.

Shahrooz says the individuals who had their accounts closed did not violate sanctions and that a diverse cross-section of the Iranian-Canadian community was targeted, including students and seniors.

The group says their members hope that talks with the bank will offer them a chance to clear their names and have their accounts reopened.

TD was not immediately available for comment.
