Tasty safety-geared fundraiser benefits children

PENTICTON - Education and awareness will be the hot topics at The Roost is on Fire fundraising event Saturday, geared to benefit ongoing operations at the Penticton Safety Village.

The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Red Rooster Winery, 891 Naramata Rd. in Penticton.

The Red Rooster Winery and the Penticton Fire Department have joined forces to help the Penticton Safety Village raised $10,000 for village operations. Participants can purchase a picnic lunch by chef Darin Paterson featuring pulled pork sandwiches, pasta salad and a sweet treat to finish off the meal. Each costs $15. Picnic-goers can then lunch on the lawn around the vineyard, take part in outdoor games and visit Andy's Animal Acres petting zoo. As well, the Penticton Fire Department staff will be on hand for demonstrations.

Grown-ups can purchase wine by the glass or bottle, with sparkline fruit juice available for all ages.

Penticton Safety Village offers safety awareness to children on a variety of topics from bicycle safety, rules of the road, fire hazard awareness and home fire escape planning. It's operated by a non-profit society out of its location at 490 Edmonton Ave.
