Take the plunge into the New Year

This year marks the 30th annual polar bear swim in Summerland. Last year's event (above) took place under slightly warmer air temperatures than are predicted for Thursday's swim.

PENTICTON - You can make a New Years resolution to start 2015 with a splash - into Okanagan Lake, that is.

The 30th Summerland Kinsmen’s Annual Polar Dip is coming up on January 1 in the frigid waters off Sunoka Beach, Trout Creek.

This year’s event promises to be great fun for participant and spectator alike as air temperatures are expected to hover around minus 6 degrees Celsius. There will be a warming fire, hot chocolate and hot dogs available to participants and spectators, by donation.

The event is scheduled to run from noon until 1 p.m. The swim begins at noon, and in most cases, will end immediately after.

Don’t come dressed just for the swim - there will be prizes for best costume as well.

All proceeds collected from the event will go to local families and parks.

The Summerland Kinsmen Club invites everyone to come out and support this annual kick-off for the Summerland Kinsmen’s 2015 programs.
