After seven years in business, the Swiss Chalet and Harvey's franchise in Kamloops will close its doors on Friday.
Darcie Smith, manager at the location, says it was a shock to 27 employees who have less than a week to figure out other work opportunities.
The Swiss Chalet and Harvey's are set to close at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7. The franchises are part of the Recipe Unlimited chain of restaurants, which has seen the closure of Montana’s, Milestones and East Side Mario’s in Kamloops.
“The staff found out yesterday, so it’s a very, very short amount of time,” Smith says. “It came as a shock to everyone. We’re all pretty emotional about it, we’re all pretty close-knit and family-style, so it really came as a shock.”
Smith says the franchise is closing due to the owner’s financial situation.
“He’s not able to keep it running anymore and it’s not in the city where he lives so it’s a little bit of a drive for him to come here,” Smith says. “Unfortunately it’s just not making it financially, it’s not bringing in enough money and he’s decided to let the restaurant go.”
“Recipe was pushing him to keep it open as long as he could but unfortunately he decided he was done,” Smith says.
