Sweeping into spring

City crews have started street sweeping and pothole patching in Kamloops.

KAMLOOPS - Even with a chance of snow still in the forecast crews are ready to move ahead to the next stage of road maintenance — street sweeping and cleaning.

The City of Kamloops will be moving ahead with full around the clock cleaning starting next week, the first week of March.

“It’s a few weeks early, but to say we’ll finish early is a bit premature,” Public Works Director Jen Fretz says, adding whether it’s snow clearing, street cleaning or pothole filling, crews will be out.

Work will begin the Westsyde area, along with Downtown, Dallas, Valleyview, North Shore and Brock, all the lower elevation areas in the valley. As weather permits they will begin to work their way up into the higher areas of Kamloops.

Argo Road Maintenance, the contractor for the Ministry of Transportation, has also got a jump on spring sweeping. Crews began work near Halston Avenue, Highway 1 and Highway 5 in the Kamloops area earlier this week.
