Suspicious package found in West Kelowna was an explosive

The suspicious package found in West Kelowna was an explosive device.

The package was reported to police as suspicious on May 26 at 8:27 a.m., the West Kelowna RCMP said yesterday. It was near the end of Bartley Road on the shoulder.

Today police issued another release to say the package was an explosive device, and that it was destroyed locally.

The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit, which attended “out of an abundance of caution,” as the release says, was the team that determined it was an explosive.

The investigation is being led by the West Kelowna RCMP General Duty and is being assisted by the Explosives Disposal Unit and Forensic Identification Section.

No more details are being released at the moment “to protect the integrity of the investigation.”

Anybody with info about the explosive is asked to share it with the West Kelowna RCMP by calling 250-768-2880.
