There was a suspicious fire at an abandoned house last night in West Kelowna.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue were called to an abandoned structure fire in the 1800-block of Ross Road at 6:30 p.m. on April 28, according to a press release.

The smoke was highly visible from Highway 97.

The first crew on the scene was able to spray the blaze enough to contain it so it didn’t spread to neighbouring properties or a nearby field.

Firefighters decided it would be too dangerous to enter the building so they brought in an excavator to knock the house down and put out any remaining fire from a safe distance.

West Kelowna Fire Rescue said the fire was suspicious in nature but since they had to knock the building down the cause is undetermined.
