Suspicious fire destroys Kelowna cabin

Kelowna firefighters battled a single-storey cabin fire yesterday afternoon which led to the destruction of the structure.

Kelowna Fire Dispatch received numerous 9-1-1 calls reporting large flames and smoke coming from a building in the 5500 block of Lakeshore Road at 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, according to a Kelowna Fire Department press release.

Fire arriving firefighters confirmed heavy black smoke and flames extending from a small single storey cabin/garage style structure. A offensive fire attack was deployed and the fire was controlled from the exterior, according to the fire department.

The building was demolished, along with two vehicles that were parked inside. No one was inside the structure at the time, according to the fire department.

Initially for engines, a command unit, safety unit, a tender and rescue truck along with 20 fire personnel were on scene to fight the fire along with assistance from RCMP and Fortis.

The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and the RCMP is investigating.
