KELOWNA - A suspicious early morning fire has burned a Kelowna house to the ground.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Captain Kelly Stephens says in a press release emergency crews responded to multiple call of a structure fire in the 3600 block of McKinley Beach Drive at 5:41 a.m.today, Jan. 24.

The intitial responders on the scene saw a large vacant single family house, that was under construction, consumed with heavy flames and smoke.

Stephens says a defensive attack to extinguish the fire began in the basement area of the building, but due to the size of the flames and wind conditions, the house could not be saved.

The fire is deemed suspicious, he says. Kelowna Fire and RCMP will be on the scene this morning to investigate. The cause of the fire was not disclosed.
