Two fire engines headed to the Kelowna Curling Club early this morning after the fire department received several calls about a fire near the building.
A pile of pallets and flooring material was "fully involved" next to the building, with a fire measuring up to 20 feet high around 2 a.m. today, Sept. 8, according to a Kelowna Fire Department news release.
The area was about 30 feet long and 10 feet wide, but the large pallet fire only left charring and stains. It didn't damage the structure of the curling club building, which is in Kelowna's North End on Recreation Ave.
With nine firefighters on the scene, they brought in an excavator to break the pile down and fully extinguish the blaze early this morning.
Kelowna RCMP was also at the scene and will now investigate the "suspicious" fire, according to the news release.
