Two men have been arrested after a hand gun was waved outside of Merritt Secondary School this afternoon.

Merritt RCMP officers received a report today, June 20, that man had brandished a hand gun outside of Merritt Secondary School, according to an RCMP media release.

The school immediately went into lockdown.

Officers were able to quickly locate and arrest two suspects outside of the school.

Both suspects are currently being held in custody pending further investigation.

"We recognize how terrifying an incident like this is for all involved, including parents," Merritt RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Josh Roda said in the release. "Please be assured we put our children's lives above all else and will do everything we can to keep them safe."

Anyone with information about this incident, and has not spoken to police, is asked to call Merritt RCMP at 250-378-4262.
