An impaired driver was taken into custody after reportedly damaging multiple vehicles on the North Shore in Kamloops on Saturday, Dec. 4.

The suspect was driving a blue SUV with multiple flat tires, according to a release by Kamloops RCMP.

An officer patrolling Tranquille Road was alerted by several people waving their hands and pointing down Campbell Avenue, where the suspect vehicle was spotted at around 3:30 p.m.

“The officer tried to stop the vehicle, then block it from leaving as the suspect attempted to drive away,” said Const. Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson, in the release. “While trying to flee, the suspect reversed into a second police vehicle approaching, causing significant damage to the cruiser’s front end.”

With the suspect’s vehicle pinned, officers were able to remove and arrest the suspect. Once at the jail, the suspect allegedly refused to provide a breath sample.

The Kamloops man was released with a court date and conditions related to Criminal Code impaired driving offences to be recommended as part of the charge assessment and approval process, RCMP said.

Along with the police cruiser and SUV, a parked vehicle also sustained damage. No one was seriously injured.
