Somebody was seen lighting a fire at a Kamloops construction site in a residential neighbourhood early this morning and RCMP are trying to identify a suspect and the suspect vehicle.
Police were called to the 2100 block of Van Horne Drive to assist Kamloops Fire and Rescue shortly after 5 a.m. today, July 28, according to an RCMP media release.
When officers arrived firefighters were extinguishing fully engulfed compact wheel loader.
A heavier set, older person was seen on surveillance footage. He arrived in a brown or gold Honda CRV, possibly a 2005 or 2006 model. He then carried a jerry can toward the loader and set it ablaze. The CRV then sped away.
“We are asking anyone who lives in the area of the construction site... to review their surveillance video footage to determine if they captured this vehicle, or occupants coming or going from the site,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in the release. “Please review video between 4:30 a.m. and 5:05 a.m.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference 2023-27066.
