Suspect in North Okanagan break-in arrested with help of RCMP helicopter

RCMP arrested a 35-year-old Spallumcheen man yesterday afternoon after he attempted to steal a home security system in Armstrong.

A homeowner in Armstrong caught the suspect on camera trying to steal the home security system in his home on Wood Avenue at around 2:45 p.m., Jan. 4, according to an RCMP media release.

The suspect fled the scene in a stolen pickup truck at a high speed on Otter Lake Road.

“As the RCMP Air Section helicopter was already in the air assisting Search and Rescue in Coldstream, the pilot quickly redirected to provide assistance to officers on the ground,” Vernon RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Tania Finn said in the release.

“The helicopter pilot was able to track the pickup truck and advised officers on the ground the location that the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot."

Officers contained the area and managed to arrest the suspect without incident.

The man suspect is in custody facing multiple charges including dangerous driving and failure to stop for police.

Police are still investigating this incident.
