KAMLOOPS - A 24-year-old man is in custody after hitting another man with a beer bottle during a bar fight in Kamloops yesterday.

RCMP say officers were called to a report of a fight between two men at a bar on Tranquille Road yesterday, May 24, however both men had left the bar by the time police arrived.

"According to witnesses and video surveillance, the suspect had assaulted the victim by punching him and then striking him with a beer bottle," Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a media release. "The suspect also had what appeared to be handgun and brandished it during the assault."

Police located the suspect a few blocks away from the bar, and after searching the area, found a small silver replica pistol.

RCMP are recommending the 24-year-old man be charged with breach of probation, using a firearm in the commission of an offense and assault with a weapon.

"The victim has been identified and police will contact him to ascertain what the extent of his injuries are," Shelkie says.
