KAMLOOPS - A 35-year-old man is in police custody in connection with a series of incidents involving a vehicle smashing into businesses in Kamloops last night.

RCMP say they received a complaint about a vehicle that had backed into the Bank of Montreal on Columbia Street at around 8:30 p.m. yesterday, May 22.

“Soon after, numerous 911 calls were received of the same vehicle smashing into other businesses at the Sahali Mall, Aberdeen Village Centre Mall, Winners and numerous other businesses and banks,” Cpl. Jodie Shelkie says in a news release.

The suspect vehicle was spotted by police at the Lansdowne Shopping Centre and struck a police vehicle while attempting to flee, Shelkie says. Police were able to stop the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody.

The total amount of damage caused by the driver is currently being assessed.

A 35-year-old man, who is known to police, is scheduled to appear in court today, May 22.
