KAMLOOPS - A man is in custody after approaching a woman in downtown Kamloops and demanding her wallet.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says on Sunday, Nov. 26, a woman was walking along Lorne Street when a man approached her and demanded her wallet.

Shelkie says the man had a small pocket knife, but the woman didn't give up her wallet. Instead, she kept walking and called 911.

Dispatchers told the woman to go to a public place and wait for police to arrive. When they did, they found the suspect a short distance away, Shelkie says.

He was arrested without incident and according to court documents he's still in custody, facing charges of robbery and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Stuart Lamont Wonnacott, born 1974, is expected to seek bail on the charges later this week.

Court documents show Wonnacott was convicted of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm back in 2002 and was placed on a one-year probation period.
