VERNON - A downtown Vernon business isn’t feeling the love today.

Barbara Harvey, the owner of Libra Love Boutique on Coldstream Avenue, says she is dealing with roughly $1,000 in damages after the store was broken into early Monday morning.

A suspect wearing a ski mask and a hood was caught on the store’s video surveillance ramming the glass door with what appeared to be a wood two by four around 5 a.m. Oct. 10.

Harvey assumed the individual was looking for cash because the register was moved and tampered with.

“Of course he couldn’t find any (money) because we don’t keep any on the premises,” Harvey says, adding the register was left open to show it was empty.

Nothing of any major value was taken from the store, but the suspect did make off with four bottles of discounted lube, Harvey says.

“You have to laugh, right? Here he is breaking into a business and he steals lube,” Harvey says. “We have other stock, some toys are like $300.”

She’s trying to maintain a sense of humour, but says the incident, and $1,000 in damages, has been tough on the business, which she runs with her husband.

“That’s a lot of money for a small business to fork over all of a sudden,” Harvey says.

Police are investigating the crime, and Cpl. J.R. Lechky says anyone with information is encouraged to contact the detachment.

“There is some video surveillance we’re looking to get our hands on to see if we can identify someone from the video,” Lechky says.
