Suspect arrested following theft of elderly Kelowna woman's car

The B.C. Prosecution service has approved a charge of possession of stolen property against 38-year-old Fernando Verde following theft of an elderly woman's vehicle.

Kelowna RCMP have arrested a suspect following the theft of an elderly resident’s car.

The man was found in the vehicle reported stolen by an elderly Kelowna woman on Oct. 6, just before 5:30 p.m., according to an RCMP media release.

The victim reported her Buick Verano had been taken from a parking lot in the 1500 block of Banks Road in Kelowna while she had been out shopping, Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release.

"Just before midnight of the same day, a Kelowna RCMP officer located the woman’s vehicle in the 1500-block of Highway 33,” Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said. “The front line RCMP officer followed the vehicle and arrested the driver a short time later without incident. The vehicle was returned to its grateful owner.

Fernando Verde, 38, has been charged with possession of stolen property and has been released from custody with conditions for a future court date.
