A man was arrested last night after the Kelowna RCMP responded to complaints of a gun being pointed at a driver and a taxi cab was damaged by a suspect with a machete.

On May 21, just after 5:30 p.m., Kelowna RCMP responded to a complaint of a gun being pointed at a motorist by a driver of a white car near Banks Road and Enterprise Way, according to the RCMP in a news release.

"A short time later, a taxi driver reported that a man in a white car damaged his cab with a machete while he was parked in the 2600-block of Enterprise Way. The man fled the scene in the white car," the release stated.

RCMP officers located the suspect vehicle near the Rutland Community Policing Office and he was taken into custody without further incident.

“This is not believed to be an act of random violence,” said Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy of the Kelowna RCMP, in the release. “Regardless, this was an extremely dangerous incident, and it is fortunate no one was injured.”

The 25-year-old Kelowna man has been released on strict conditions for a future court date and the matter will be submitted to the B.C. Prosecution Service for review, RCMP said.
