Sunshine to start the week in Kamloops and the Okanagan

Kamloops and the Okanagan should see pleasant spring-like conditions today, April 5, 2021 and tomorrow, with a couple of minor weather systems bringing showers by mid-week.

The first full week of April is expected to start off  and end on a spring-like note in Kamloops and the Okanagan, with a couple of minor weather systems bringing possible showers through the mid-week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Dave Wray says Easter Monday, April 5, and tomorrow should be mostly sunny and warm with highs between 14 Celsius and 17 C for Kamloops, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.

Kamloops can expect westerly winds at 20 km/h today. In the Okanagan, Kelowna and Vernon should see northwest winds at 20 km/h this afternoon. It’s expected to be a bit more breezy in Penticton, with afternoon winds from the north at 20 km/h gusting to 40.

A mild disturbance crossing the region Wednesday could bring with it a 30 per cent possibility of showers to Kamloops, and a 60 per cent possibility to Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton. Things could cool off a bit with highs of 13 C and 12 C in Kamloops Wednesday and Thursday, and 11 C in the Okanagan both days.

On Friday, another weak system could bring flurries or rain showers to Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton with a high of 8 C expected. Kamloops could see showers and a high of 10 C.

So far, things are looking good for the upcoming weekend.

Following Friday’s disturbance, a high pressure system is expected to rebuild across the region, bringing a mix of sun and cloud and highs of 12 C on Saturday and 15 C on Sunday to Kamloops and the Okanagan.

Kamloops normally sees a high of 15 C and a low of 2 C in early April, while Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton see an average high of 13 C and a low of 1 C.
